Description: |
This 6-hour presentation was
filmed during a live workshop and takes the viewer into
the heart of the workshop. |
|
Vol. 2 was created for people who want to learn how to
incorporate craniosacral/myofascial therapy into their current treatment
protocol.
Frequently
Asked Questions about Vol. 2.
Who is the intended audience for this workshop presentation?
Dr. Phillips, “It will be best used by professionals who
wish to incorporate a soft-tissue approach to their current work
with clients, or anyone interested in exploring a new career in
the field of bodywork that incorporates craniosacral therapy or
myofascial unwinding. For example: massage therapists can utilize
the techniques taught to move their practices away from an intention-based
and physically demanding technique to more of a passive patient-centered
approach; chiropractors and chiropractic students who want to incorporate
more soft-tissue approaches for patients who are unable to hold
their adjustments will be able to utilize the kinesthetic exercises
to help enhance their palpatory skills in following a fascial release;
nurses who want to learn how to help their patients heal faster;
and dentists who realize the impact of aggressive dental work and
want to incorporate corrective procedures to help their patients
heal will also benefit. And, as I stated earlier, Vol. 2 is a wonderful
introductory video for people who are exploring a new career in
the field of myofascial bodywork.”
What is the major focus of this workshop?
Dr. Phillips, “Primarily, it is the foundation for myofascial
and craniosacral work. While it doesn’t necessarily get into
depth with cranial anatomy or cranial protocols, it does help the
participant learn how to feel a fascial release. Once they experience
feeling it and believe that they can follow a release, they are
more likely to follow up with the necessary anatomy training and
practical knowledge to achieve a higher level of skill in the work.
Would this be a good video for craniosacral study groups?
Dr. Phillips, “Absolutely. It was filmed by a person who
knew what he was doing. He filmed while I was lecturing, teaching
basic exercises, or demonstrating, and he successfully made almost
every scene valuable to the viewer. Study groups are now watching
the 4 tapes in small weekly segments so they can watch, listen,
discuss and then do the exercises together over a period of time.”
What are some of the lecture topics covered in Vol. 2?
Dr. Phillips, “There were a wide range of topics discussed
throughout the workshop. Primarily, on the tape, I focused heavily
on the concepts of entrainment, tissue memory, fascial unwinding,
and learning how to shut off the logical portion of the left brain
while working with people, thus allowing the creative right hemisphere
to dominant so that the participant can feel and follow the release.”
Does this workshop follow your usual pattern of focusing in on
pregnancy and pediatrics?
Dr. Phillips, “Yes, it does. Of course, the technique applies
to everyone of any age or gender, but I do talk a lot about birth
so, consequently, participants who slip into a therapeutic unwinding
typically work through their own birth experience. You will witness
this many times throughout the workshop.”
If viewers watch the workshop and decide they want to go on for
additional training, is that possible?
Dr. Phillips, “Yes, it is. They can attend a 4-part series
of 12-hr workshops that I teach once a year in my hometown of Minneapolis.
They can organize workshops in their own town and I will come to
them. They can attend workshops taught by the Upledger Institute
which are presented all over the world. Or, they can attend a series
of workshops taught by the Hugh Milne Institute.”
Can these tapes help professionals educate their own patients
prior to performing this form of bodywork or referring them out
to someone specializing in it?
Dr. Phillips, “Yes. I have heard of doctors sharing the tapes
with their patients so they can witness the power of the body to
hold onto tissue memory and to release fascial torsion that may
have occurred during a car accident, sports injury, abuse or birth.
After watching someone else go through an unwinding, many patients
are eager to experience the technique and allow their own subconscious
memories to surface. Watching others release tissue memory often
results in people allowing themselves to release their own structural
problems.
Watching the tapes has also led many people on a new career path
and I have had the privilege of watching people grow and evolve
into excellent body workers.”
Is it available in DVD format?
Dr. Phillips, “Yes, that is the wave of the future. It’s
an excellent tool to help the viewer go back and revisit some of
the topics, exercises or case presentations easily. While the workshop
is best viewed from beginning to end and not in segments based on
the topics presented, it was nice to provide a medium that allows
for ease in skipping around the workshop to areas of interest.”
Are there any pediatric case presentations?
Dr. Phillips, “Yes, during the workshop, I presented two
very unique video case presentations of newborns who were having
difficulties due to their birth experience. We filmed the VCR presentations
which should not have been very clear on the TV but they did come
out well enough to be viewed. I was happy; they were great for showing
a cranial/fascial unwinding of two small babies. I think the viewer
will enjoy watching the treatments. In the future, I will be creating
another video that will show several original video taped treatment
sessions with children but for now I think these will be interesting
to witness. |
